George Nakashima was such an amazing designer and craftsman of fine wood furniture that has inspired so many modern woodworkers. I see so much of his style these days as I feel handcrafted furniture is making a comeback. I see a lot of his details in other peoples work, but they just don’t have the soul his has.

Diatom Studio is creating an open-source software tool that allows anyone to easily design and build their own digitally fabricated furniture called SketchChair.

As a lover of furniture and especially chairs I can’t wait to see this progress further. They are looking for backing on Kickstarter and have already exceeded their goal. rad.

I’ve always been obsessed with Eero Aarnio’s Pastil chair. It’s such a simple design that’s actually really comfortable, durable and should remind us all to keep our designs simple, beautiful and of course functional.
